This job involves listening to audio or watching videos, then typing out what you hear.

You don’t need any particular qualification; you just have to understand what the speakers say and type it out — fast.

Several transcription companies accept Kenyans. To find jobs, you have to apply to each company. They will give you a two-part test which you must pass to be accepted.

The first part of the test usually involves testing your grammar skills, while the last part will be transcription. Here are some tips on how to pass it:

  • Read and follow the instruction guidelines to the letter.
  • Listen to the audio several times.
  • Proofread to make sure your transcription is error-free
  • Research all spellings on Google.

Following is a list of some sites accepting Kenyan transcribers:

Transcription jobs pay anything from KSh 20 to KSh 50 per audio minute. That means your payment will be about KSh 200 – KSh 500 for each 10-minute audio you complete.

The goal is to improve your speed and efficiency, so you can put in more audio minutes and earn KSh1000 or more each day.

To start transcribing, you will need a computer and headphones. Once you start getting paid, you can gradually upgrade to get more tools to improve your work output.
